January Drugstore Makeup Favorites

I’ve been a little MIA on my blog lately – the holidays, life and work have been getting in the way of talking about makeup. HOW DARE THEY!

New Years Resolution: Get at least one blog post up a month. Hold me accountable, friends!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are having a great start to your 2017. With a new year comes many exciting opportunities and a fresh take on life – and, of course, the launch of new drugstore makeup, which is always pleasing to us addicts! Though not all of the products I am talking about today are “new”, they’re all new to me and I have been LOVING them lately!

Skincare

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream

My skin goes from being an oil slick in the summer to the Sahara Desert in the winter – does anyone else have this problem? During the colder months, I still get slightly oily in my t-zone during the day, but I have some pretty crazy dry patches around my nose and mouth. My summertime moisturizer just wasn’t combating my dry and flakey winter skin, so I decided to give this moisturizer a try. It’s amazing! Doesn’t clog my pores or feel greasy, but it really hydrates and plumps my skin before makeup application. They also have a version of this moisturizer that is marketed more towards oily skin, which you can find here.

Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water & Makeup Remover

If you’re super lazy when it comes to your skincare routine, micellar water will be your best friend. This stuff is like makeup wipes on steroids – it gets all of your makeup off without being too harsh or drying. I like to use it before I go in with my cleanser and face brush, which gives my skin the deep clean it needs at night before bed. It’s an extra step, but one I feel is totally worth it. They also make a version of this micellar water to remove waterproof makeup – that one breaks me out, but if you’re not acne-prone, it’s a great option.

Makeup

Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation

This foundation is brand new and has been blowing up in the beauty community. You can find about 1,000 first impression videos on YouTube about it right now, so naturally I had to try it myself to see what all the hype is about. You guys – it’s so good. And it $6. That’s the cheapest foundation I think I have ever tried, and it’s totally comparable to many of my high-end foundations. It has medium coverage, but can be built up to full if you put two thin layers on. It has a semi-matte finish and looks pretty dang natural on the skin. I got mine at Walgreens, but they have a much larger shade selection via the link above.

CoverGirl Clean Matte BB Cream

Here I am, complaining about how dry my skin has been lately, and yet I’m raving about products that are matte – what gives? This and the Wet n Wild foundation are marketed as being “matte”, but they’re not the dry, cakey, powdery matte that most people think of. They just look natural and like skin when you’re wearing them. Make sense? Anyways, this BB cream rocks and I think it would work for all skin types. I wear shade 510 Fair.

Essence Pure Nude Highlighter

This highlighter is a hidden drugstore gem. If you’re looking for a highlight that looks natural and gives you that “lit from within” glow, this one definitely fits the bill. It’s a peachy champagne color, which translates into the most gorgeous sheen on the face. Go buy it – maybe even buy five.

Wet n Wild Color Icon Bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana

Let’s be real – I have absolutely no idea why this is called a “bronzer”, as it’s practically white on the skin. This is another one of those highlighters that looks more dewy than sparkly – almost as if your face is wet – which is the kind I really love. This makes your skin look so youthful and glowing!

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick

I talked about this product on Instagram earlier this week, as it is hands down one of my favorite liquid lipsticks of all time. It’s matte without giving you that “oh my gosh I feel like I constantly need to lick my lips because they’re so dry” feeling. My favorite color in the range is Soft Spoken – the perfect mauvey nude.

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer

The PF Butter Bronzer not only looks amazing on the skin, but it smells SO GOOD. The tone of this bronzer isn’t too warm, making it great for contouring as well. I love using it on my forehead to make me look like I have a little bit of a tan, even though I could totally pass as Casper right now.

Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation (Doesn’t this look AMAZING on the skin? I did not retouch this photo at all or use any filters. I have quite a few breakouts right now and it makes me look airbrushed!)

Also, I’m thinking about filming a “tutorial” on my everyday makeup routine and posting it on my blog – would you guys like to see something like that?

Until next time, friends.
